A Brief History

Druce Hall was officially opened on 9 June 1985 and is named after P. M. Druce, the first Headmaster of Parktown Boys’ High School. The boarders are incorporated into the house system as Vulcans and almost since their inception the Vulcans of Druce Hall have dominated the inter-house Prefects’ Shield Competition. In keeping with School tradition Druce Hall have adopted the “Lion Rampant” of Emmanuel College (Druce’s Alma Mater), Cambridge University, England as its emblem. The house colour purple, is the colour of the original North Western High School, from which Parktown Boys’ High School and Parktown Girls’ High School originate.
Vulcans are encouraged to live up to the School motto of “Surgite” or “Arise” in order to experience life to the full at Parktown Boys’ High School. The fact that this relatively young boarding establishment have produced several head boys at Parktown Boys’ High School as well as the captains of Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Rowing and Squash bears testimony to the fact that the Druce Hall System develops men of the highest calibre.
